Our Inside Track
In 1986 Richard and Dawn Furlong operated their first escorted tour, a dance holiday to Denmark with Frank Reid and His Band. Since then they have organised dance holidays in nearly 20 countries worldwide. Unlike most dance tour organisers who often buy an existing holiday package and simply add a dance evening, Richard and Dawn have always designed a tailor-made tour by researching first-hand and contracting suppliers individually. This allows Furlongs Travel to provide a much better quality holiday and also excellent value for money.
Apart from the obvious essentials including comfortable accommodations and good organisation, two of the key elements of a Furlongs dance holiday have always been the venue and the music. Over the years Furlongs have arranged private dance events in some stunning places ... including Kilkenny Castle in Ireland, town halls in Auckland and Christchurch in New Zealand, and the Banff Springs Hotel in Canada. Dance venues are always negotiated for private use and naturally we prefer a wooden floor. A dance band always accompanies a Furlongs dance holiday. Frank Reid and His Band have accompanied numerous Furlongs tours worldwide, and David Cunningham, Ian Macphail and Sandy Nixon have also enjoyed foreign tours with the Furlong Family.
In 1991 Richard and Dawn were invited by Jim MacLeod to run a dance holiday at the Stakis Dunblane Hydro in Perthshire. Following fifteen highly successful visits to Dunblane and with Jim on the verge of retiring, we moved our Scottish base half-an-hour up the road to the newly refurbished Crieff Hydro. Here, since 1997, we have enjoyed excellent hospitality and danced exclusively in the hotel's main ballroom to the top Scottish bands.
If you fancy a Scottish country dance holiday with a 17 year pedigree, join us at the Crieff Hydro!

The hotel's public rooms and facilities are now second to none and the staff is extremely helpful and committed to making your stay as enjoyable as possible. The accommodation is excellent, the food is delicious and the ballroom has a wooden sprung floor - widely accepted as one of the best in the country.
All bedrooms have been refurbished to a high standard and have private facilities of bath tub or shower, wash basin, WC, plus tea and coffee making equipment, colour TV and telephone. The dance holiday offers a choice of standard twin, double or single bedded rooms, and executive twins or doubles. Executive twin and double rooms have the additional facilities of a trouser press, room safe and decor of the highest standard. They normally offer the best views and are situated in the Ferntower Wing and in other areas of the hotel. Executive rooms are subject to a supplement of £15 per person per night. Single rooms have the same facilities as standard twins and doubles although many feature a shower unit rather than a bath tub. Singles have one bed and some rooms are not overly spacious but there is no single supplement.
The holiday includes dinner, bed and breakfast. Most meals are taken in the hotel's Meikle Restaurant where breakfast is a leisurely affair and can include anything from fruit and cereal to porridge or a traditional full cooked. Our evening meals consist of a variety of starters, hot dishes (including a carvery), desserts and tea and coffee. On Tuesday evening we enjoy a special 4-course served dinner in the magnificent Drawing Room.
Facilities include a swimming pool, bowls, golf, tennis, woodland walks, nature trails and a lot more besides. The estate comprises over 900 acres.

Frequently Asked Questions
If you have any questions not covered here, please don't hesitate to contact us.
There’s no special dress code but smart casual perhaps best describes previous trips. Gentlemen generally wear the kilt and the ladies their normal dance dresses for dancing. We schedule a short break between dinner and dancing, but it is best to come to dinner dressed ready to dance.
If your stay includes the Monday and Tuesday nights why not join our complimentary daytime excursion on the Tuesday? For 2014 this will feature a visit to the Drummond Gardens and to Stirling. Drummond Castle was first built around 1490, but it wasn’t until the mid-1600’s that the gardens merited any mention. Today, Drummond Gardens has all the characteristics of a courtly, 17th century Scottish Renaissance garden. It is a composite garden, restructured in early Victorian times and renewed again in the 20th century when the garden framework and the exceptional interest of the original design were carefully preserved. A strong north-south axis runs through the garden, down an impressive flight of steps to a sundial, through the classical archway and kitchen garden beyond, cutting a swathe through woodland before rising to the top of the opposing hillside. This idea of drawing the countryside into the garden is essentially French; however, Drummond is an eclectic garden and also rooted firmly in the Italian style with its fountains and terracing. Our excursion also visits the City of Stirling, with time to explore the Old Town and famous Castle. A 35-year restoration project of the Great Hall was completed in 2009 and together with the Regimental Museum and the new Stirling Tapestries, the castle is well worth a visit. The excursion includes coach transport and entry to the Drummond Gardens. An entry fee is payable locally if you wish to visit Stirling Castle.

Dance classes with Janet Johnston
Optional dance classes will be held in the Hydro Ballroom between 10am and 12 noon on Saturday 7th, Monday 9th and Wednesday 11th June 2014. These classes are intended to provide a couple of hours of not too rigorous instruction with the emphasis, as always, on enjoyment. We are delighted to welcome Janet Johnston from Edinburgh as our dance teacher for 2014.
Furlongs Travel have been organising Scottish dance holidays at home and abroad since 1986. From the outset the dancing has always been for fun and enjoyment and you will find the Crieff dance evenings relaxed and informal. Dancers of all levels of experience are welcome. Our dance programmes are packed with popular dances. Each year we ask guests for feedback, and well over 90% rate our evening programmes as 4-star or better!! Although we don't give walk-throughs, we do give partial recaps - enough to remind everyone how the dance starts without disrupting the flow of the evening. The programmes are published well in advance and a crib for every evening is available. To add a bit of spice to the proceedings, one slightly more challenging dance and one simple, but newer dance is included each night. A half-hour practice session in the afternoon offers the chance to walk them through before the evening. The 2014 dance programmes will be announced well in advance and posted online. Dance cribs will be available to download and printed copies can be included in final holiday tickets on request.
Deposit and Payment Terms
The deposit is £100 per person but this is not due until 31st October 2013. The balance is due by 7th March 2014.
All reservations will be protected by a financial failure insurance.

Graham and Caroline look forward to welcoming you to the Hydro and their aim is to ensure everyone enjoys every aspect of their holiday.
It is not a requirement of our terms and conditions that you have insurance for this holiday in the UK but we strongly recommend it. If you book and then have to cancel, you will be liable for cancellation charges so we recommend you protect yourself accordingly.
